131Focusing on the Outcome You Want

When seeking an important response from another person, a business, or an organization, it can be helpful to spend time focusing clearly on the outcome that is most desired. This visualization exercise is designed to encourage mental clarity, positive expectation, and emotional readiness while waiting for a decision or answer.

Begin by finding a quiet place where interruptions are unlikely. Sit or stand comfortably and take a few moments to relax. Allow the mind to settle and bring the situation into focus. Think about the answer, opportunity, or result that is being sought.

As the situation becomes clearer, imagine the different ways it could unfold. At first, several possibilities may appear together. Gradually separate them into two groups. Place the unwanted outcomes to the left and the preferred outcome to the right. If the situation involves a simple yes-or-no answer, imagine the “no” response on the left and the “yes” response on the right. If there are multiple possibilities, place the desired result alone on the right while all other outcomes remain on the left.

Continue this visualization until the preferred outcome stands clearly apart from the alternatives.

Next, imagine gathering each group of possibilities into its own sphere of energy. One sphere contains all unwanted outcomes, while the other contains the desired result. Once both spheres feel complete, focus on the sphere holding the unwanted possibilities. Imagine it moving farther and farther away until it disappears from view.

Then turn attention to the sphere containing the preferred outcome. Slowly bring it closer and imagine it becoming part of your awareness. Allow yourself to experience what it would feel like if the desired answer had already arrived. Notice any feelings of relief, satisfaction, confidence, or gratitude that naturally emerge.

Spend a few moments enjoying this sense of positive expectation. When finished, release any attachment to the outcome and return to the present moment. Rather than worrying about what will happen, carry forward a feeling of calm confidence, trusting that the situation will unfold in its own time.
