‘Tea Drinker’s Chant’

To begin, you may wish to gather the following items:

Your preferred mug or cup, a stirring spoon or stick, and your chosen beverage. While tea is commonly used, any drink that requires stirring can be suitable.

Start by preparing your beverage. As it brews, try to keep your mind calm and clear. Maintaining focus is helpful for this practice, so allow yourself a few moments to relax and center your thoughts.

Once your drink is ready and still warm, you can add any ingredients you enjoy, such as sugar, honey, or mint. If you prefer your beverage plain, you may proceed directly to the next step. As you add ingredients, take slow, deep breaths to help you remain present and mindful.

The stirring process is considered the most significant part of this ritual. If you wish to invite something positive into your life—such as luck, friendship, or prosperity—stir your drink in a clockwise direction. If your intention is to release or let go of something—like stress, anger, or misfortune—stir counterclockwise.

As you stir, visualize what you hope to attract or release. Focus your attention on the center of the swirling liquid, allowing your intention to guide your thoughts.

While stirring, you may choose to say the names of what you wish to bring in or let go, either aloud or silently. For example:

To invite positive qualities, you might say, “Bring luck, love, happiness, and fortune into my life.”

To release unwanted feelings, you could say, “Banish sadness, anger, hate, and misfortune from my life.”

When you feel ready, finish your chant as many times as feels appropriate. Then, enjoy your beverage and continue with your day as usual.
