136Creating a Protective Energy Shield for a Loved One

Many spiritual traditions include practices designed to focus care, intention, and protection toward another person. One simple visualization exercise involves creating an energetic shield around a loved one, helping to reinforce feelings of safety, wellbeing, and support.

Begin by sitting or standing comfortably with the person you wish to protect. Take a few moments to relax, breathe slowly, and clear away distractions. Place both hands gently on the top of the person’s head and focus on their presence. Pay attention to the sense of connection that develops. Emotional bonds between family members, partners, and close friends can be complex, so it can be helpful to release any distracting thoughts or negative emotions before continuing.

Once a calm and clear connection has been established, focus on the intention of protection. Imagine a powerful shield forming around the person—a barrier designed to surround them with safety and positive energy.

Raise your hands slightly, about an inch above the person’s head. Visualize a protective field beginning to take shape beneath your hands. Imagine this shield as a vibrant, energetic force that is strong, stable, and impenetrable. The shield may appear in any colour that represents protection and security, such as blue, white, green, gold, or another meaningful shade.

Slowly move your hands downward around the person’s body. Your hands may lightly touch them or simply hover above their clothing or skin. As your hands travel over the face, neck, shoulders, arms, torso, legs, and feet, imagine the protective energy spreading evenly and continuously across every part of their body.

When you reach the feet, visualize the shield extending underneath and joining seamlessly with itself. The person is now completely enclosed within a smooth, protective layer of energy that surrounds them from head to toe.

Take a moment to recognise the shield as complete. Picture it remaining strong and stable around the person, offering ongoing protection and support. This exercise can be repeated whenever desired. With each repetition, the image and awareness of the protective shield may become clearer, stronger, and more firmly established in the mind.
