 Mermaid

On a rugged coast where cliffs dropped steeply into the sea, a young sailor sat alone at dusk. His ship had been wrecked by storms, and though his body survived, his spirit felt shattered. He could not hear the voice of his own heart anymore. The ocean roared endlessly below, but to him it was only noise.

As night deepened, the waves grew calm and a sound arose from the water. It was not the cry of gulls or the rush of the tide, but a melody that shimmered like silver light. From the depths rose a Mermaid, her hair flowing with seaweed, her eyes holding both sorrow and wisdom. Her voice carried words without language, yet they sank into the sailor’s heart as clearly as truth.

He leaned closer to the water, afraid to breathe, and the Mermaid spoke at last. “You drown not in the sea, but in the silence of your own soul. Listen, for within you lies a song that waits to rise.”

The sailor closed his eyes and let the sound of her song wash over him. Slowly, memories of his childhood surfaced: laughter on the shore, the sound of his mother’s voice, the rhythm of oars cutting through calm water. He realized that his despair had not stolen his song. It was only hidden beneath fear.

When he opened his eyes, the Mermaid was gone, but the ocean was no longer noise. He heard harmony in the crash of waves and rhythm in the pull of the tide. The sea spoke because he had finally remembered how to listen.

He returned to the world with a new strength. Whenever storms rose in his life, he did not resist them with rage, but listened for the song beneath the noise. And in that song, he always found his way back to himself.
