Deity – Soul

When considering the idea of the soul in witchcraft and spirituality, it can be helpful to think of souls as generally falling into two categories: those guided mainly by the mind, and those led primarily by the heart. While everyone has both mental and emotional qualities, one often plays a larger role in shaping how a person makes decisions and views the world. This is not a strict rule, but it can serve as a useful way to better understand ourselves and others.

Heart-led souls are people who experience life most strongly through their emotions, feelings, and physical sensations. For these individuals, the spiritual world is understood through excitement, passion, and the present moment. For example, someone who enjoys adventure, seeks new experiences, and finds meaning in strong emotions may be heart-led. Their natural way of communicating is through gentleness and empathy, and they respond best to kindness and emotional connection. When interacting with a heart-led soul, it is often most effective to approach them with sensitivity, since their perspective is shaped more by feelings than by logic. For instance, if a friend is upset, a heart-led person will likely offer comfort and understanding, rather than trying to analyze or solve the problem right away.

On the other hand, mind-led souls are those who approach life through ideas, reflection, and intellectual curiosity. They are often interested in philosophy, discussion, and learning. For these individuals, spiritual experiences are accessed through contemplation and careful thought. Imagine someone who prefers quiet evenings with a book or deep conversations with a few close friends, rather than large social events or spontaneous activities. Mind-led souls tend to interpret life through observation and analysis, often valuing truth and clarity over emotional expression. Their preferred way of communicating is through facts and reason, and they are most comfortable when approached with logic and thoughtful conversation. For example, when faced with a challenge, a mind-led person will likely want to understand the causes and consider different solutions before taking action.

It is important to note that all souls, regardless of whether they are more heart-led or mind-led, share a common understanding of love. Love serves as a bridge between heart and mind, emotion and reason. When trying to connect with another person’s spirit, it can be helpful to communicate in the way that resonates most with them—whether that means showing empathy or engaging in thoughtful discussion. Just as a traveler learns the local language to connect with people in a new place, we can learn to speak the “native language” of the souls we meet.

In many spiritual traditions, the concept of deity or the divine is described as understanding every language—both spoken and unspoken, of the mind and of the heart. The divine is seen as recognizing how each soul perceives the world and responding in a way that is meaningful to them. In this sense, the divine acts as a bridge, helping to ensure that communication is clear, even when people understand things differently.

Miscommunication, or misunderstanding, can lead to confusion, frustration, and even conflict. This is true in both spiritual practice and everyday life. To help prevent these issues, it can be useful to recognize the natural way others communicate and try to meet them where they are. For example, if you are working through a disagreement, consider whether the other person is looking for emotional support or logical explanation, and adjust your approach as needed. This can help create understanding and harmony, rather than division.

Over time, humanity has made progress not by giving in to misunderstanding, but by learning to appreciate and understand our differences. As you explore witchcraft and spirituality, keep in mind that every soul has its own way of seeing the world. By respecting these differences and communicating with both compassion and clarity, you can help create a more harmonious and enlightened path for yourself and those around you.
