Aura meditation is a practice that can help develop awareness of energy. Over time, this approach may support deeper self-understanding, the release of personal blocks, and a sense of connection with higher spiritual dimensions. Aura meditation often incorporates techniques such as centering, grounding, working with the aura and chakras, energy channels, and emotions. It can complement energy-based spiritual healing and psychic reading.
Grounding refers to the energetic connection between the body and the center of the planet. Through grounding, it is possible to release unwanted or excess energies. This process may also help maintain presence and awareness within the body. Noticing the connection and the downward flow of grounding energy can be beneficial.
Centering involves being present and aware from the center of the head. This state allows for self-awareness and the ability to observe oneself and others with neutrality. When centered, it becomes easier to respond thoughtfully to situations and make conscious choices. The center of the head can also be a place to access personal insight.
The aura is the electromagnetic field of energy that surrounds the body, forming a personal energy space. Clearly defining the boundaries of the aura, while allowing energy to flow, can be helpful.
The contents of the aura influence perception, experience, and the energies that are attracted into one’s life.
The following is a basic aura meditation exercise.
To begin, it may be helpful to prepare both the space and oneself. A quiet, comfortable environment where interruptions are unlikely is ideal. Creating a relaxing atmosphere—perhaps by lighting a candle, burning incense, or playing soft music—can support the process. Taking a few deep breaths and doing some light stretching may also be beneficial. Sitting upright in a comfortable position with an open posture is recommended.
Before starting the meditation, notice how you feel and experience yourself. Then, gently close your eyes and direct your attention inward.
For the meditation, imagine a cord of energy extending from your hips to the center of the planet. Placing your hands on your hips for a moment may help increase the sensation of grounding. Allow this grounding cord to have a steady downward flow. Use this connection to release any excess or unwanted energy, letting it flow down to the center of the earth. Continue to breathe naturally, noticing the experience of grounding.
Next, bring awareness to the center of your head. Allow your point of consciousness to settle there. From this place, observe yourself with neutrality. If thoughts are racing, gently move your awareness back to the center of your head, where it is quieter. Acknowledge yourself internally and notice how this feels.
Begin to expand your awareness to the field of energy around your physical body. Notice whether your energy feels close to your body or spread out. Gradually draw your aura to about an arm’s length around your body—front, back, sides, above, and below. Envision yourself surrounded by your own energy at this distance, and observe the sensation.
Remain centered in your head and aware of yourself as a spiritual being composed of energy. Acknowledge yourself as spirit. Notice your aura an arm’s length all around you, defining and owning your personal space. Maintain the grounding cord from your hips to the center of the planet, continuing to release any excess or unwanted energies. Observe the experience of centering, grounding, and validating your aura.
When you feel ready, take a few deep breaths, gently open your eyes, and begin to move slowly. Notice any changes in how you experience yourself after the meditation. Allow some time to integrate the experience and enjoy a sense of relaxation before resuming other activities. Journaling, having a cup of tea, or taking a quiet walk may be supportive, especially when first practicing this meditation.
Practicing this basic aura meditation regularly can help build awareness of energy, providing a foundation for further exploration of grounding, centering, and working with the aura.
