Powers: Protection, Moderating Anger
Magical Use: Dioscorides recommended the
alyssum as an amulet, for it has the power
to “expel charms.” Hung up in the house it
protects against fascination, that magical
process which is also known as “glamour.”
Alyssum also has the power to cool down
an angry person if placed in the hand or
on the body, and was even said to cure
hydrophobia (rabies).
